Acoustic Orbit

Terms

Last changed 22 October 2026. Plain words on purpose; where they and the law differ, the law wins.

Acoustic Orbit is a macOS app made and sold by Snehasis Gouda, an individual developer in India, trading as Acoustic Orbit ("we"). Using the app or buying a licence means you accept these terms.

What the app is

Acoustic Orbit plays the speakers you already own, wired, USB and Bluetooth, a Raspberry Pi over HDMI, an Android phone, as one array from your Mac: it times them with a microphone, turns stereo into surround, passes discrete mixes such as Atmos to the speakers wearing those roles, and keeps wired and USB paths lossless. What it can and cannot do is stated on the page; those statements are part of these terms. It needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later with a microphone. iPhone and HomePod are not supported.

Free use

Two devices are free, for as long as you like, on any number of Macs. No key, no account, no time limit.

The licence

Who you buy from. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Depending on where you are, the seller on your receipt is Paddle.com Market Limited (London), Paddle.com Inc. (New York) or Paddle.com (Canada) Ltd. (Toronto). Their buyer terms apply to the purchase itself; the software is licensed to you by us under these terms.

Pre-orders

Until the download is public, a licence is a pre-order: you pay now, your key appears on the page right after payment (keep it; if you lose it, write to us with your receipt and it comes by return), and the app follows when it ships. A key is refundable in full at any time before you activate it, and for 14 days after, no questions asked. See the refund policy.

Updates and the licence check

The app checks acousticorbit.com for updates and, once a key is activated, confirms it about once a week when online with the licence service named in the privacy notice, which also lists exactly what is sent. A dropped connection never locks you out; only an answer that the key was refunded, reversed or disabled does.

Third-party software

The system-audio tap the app installs is a modified version of BlackHole, © 2019 Existential Audio Inc., used under the GNU General Public License, version 3. Its complete source is published at github.com/snehasisgouda/acousticorbit-tap; the licence and notice also ship inside the app next to the driver. The app itself is a separate work and is not open source.

What we promise, and what we cannot

We promise what the page says, measured in a real room, and we promise the refund policy below. Beyond that the app is provided as it is: rooms, speakers and Bluetooth radios differ, and we cannot promise a particular result in yours. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim is the price you paid. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes, and a change that narrows your rights does not apply to licences bought before it.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Write to hello@acousticorbit.com first; most things are sorted in a mail or two. Questions about the payment itself can also go to Paddle at help@paddle.com.
